Scaffolding RAMS Checklist

A scaffolding RAMS must cover the specific type of scaffold being erected, the design or standard being followed (TG20 or bespoke), CISRS competence of the scaffold team, work at height controls during erection and dismantling, and the handover and inspection regime. This checklist covers the key sections of a complete scaffolding RAMS.

Scaffolding RAMS Checklist

  1. Scope and scaffold type — Independent tied scaffold, birdcage, cantilever, system scaffold, or mobile tower. Height, number of lifts, loading class, and whether bespoke design or TG20 standard solution applies
  2. Design reference — TG20:21 compliance sheet reference or bespoke structural design drawing reference. If bespoke, confirm a Temporary Works Coordinator has reviewed the design
  3. Competence — All scaffold operatives to hold current CISRS Advanced Scaffolder card. Scaffold manager or inspector to hold CISRS Scaffolding Inspector certificate or equivalent
  4. Exclusion zone during erection and dismantling — Size and method: hoarding, barrier, and signage. Who is responsible for maintaining the exclusion zone throughout the sequence
  5. Tie and anchor assessment — Anchor type, pull-out test results where required, tie pattern and spacing per design, removal and replacement procedure
  6. Weather and wind restrictions — Maximum wind speed for working at height during erection (typically Beaufort Scale 5 or per design). Procedure if weather deteriorates
  7. Inspection and handover — Pre-use inspection by competent person; weekly scaffold inspection records (BS EN 12811-1); formal handover certificate (SG4:22 or equivalent) before scaffold is used
  8. Rescue plan for falls — If operative falls and is suspended in harness, a written rescue plan and trained rescue team are required. Do not rely on calling emergency services as the only response
  9. Briefing record — All scaffold operatives to be briefed on RAMS before erection begins; names and signatures recorded
