What counts as work at height and why it matters

Competence in plain terms

Fit windows from inside out on low floors, use extendable tools for signage, pre‑assemble cladding cassettes at ground where the rivet gun and sealant are safer to handle. Short duration means it really is a quick job, not a full morning. The ladder must be in good condition, on firm ground, and used by someone who knows what good looks like. If you are reaching, carrying weight, or the surface is greasy, get a podium, tower or MEWP in instead.

Towers and scaffolds give collective protection when built right. Make sure they are erected by competent people following manufacturer instructions or current industry guidance, and do not move a mobile tower with someone on it.
