F10 Notification Checker

Under CDM 2015 Regulation 6, a construction project must be notified to HSE before its construction phase begins when the work is expected to last longer than 30 working days and have more than 20 workers on site at the same time at any point — or when it exceeds 500 person-days of construction work in total. Either trigger alone makes the project notifiable. This free checker walks through those questions and tells you what to do either way.

If Your Project Is Notifiable

The commercial client must ensure the F10 is submitted (on a domestic client project the duty passes to the contractor, or the principal contractor where there is more than one). Submission is free and online via the HSE website, and asks for the Schedule 1 particulars: project address and description, planned start date and duration, client, principal designer and principal contractor details, peak worker numbers, and the expected number of contractors. Display a copy on site and update it if key details change.

If It Is Not Notifiable

No F10 is needed — but the duty most people miss is that every construction project needs a Construction Phase Plan under CDM 2015, regardless of size or notifiability. For a single-contractor job the contractor draws it up; with more than one contractor it falls to the principal contractor. Every contractor also still needs task-specific RAMS before starting on site.
